General Motors announced today that Karl Friedrich Stracke will be leaving his position as head of global vehicle engineering to become the new CEO of Opel/Vauxhall over in Europe. As for former CEO Nick Reilly, he will become chairman of Adam Opel AG’s management board while still retaining his position as president of GM Europe. Stracke will report directly to Reilly.
Another change-up among the ranks of The General’s engineers puts Terry Woychowski, currently head of global vehicle program management, will become vice president of global quality and launches. His former position will be eliminated.
Additionally, vehicle line executives Jim Federico, Jeff Luke and Randy Schwarz — who formally reported to Woychowski — will now report directly to global product chief Mary Barra. All changes are effective April 1st.
Lastly, Sam Winegarden and Jim Lanzo are currently working together on carrying the responsibilities of the still-vacant position of VP of Powertrain engineering that was left by Jamie Hresko.
