Consumer Reports Recommends Chevrolet Avalanche For 2011

Aside from the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Avalanche was the only vehicle under a domestic brand that was able to squeeze favor of the Consumer Reports judges as one of their Top Picks for 2011.

We’re not sure what makes the Avalanche so much more special than its platform mates such as the GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade or Chevrolet Suburban, but apparently CR — a publication which seems to have a raging hard-on for favor Japanese makes — knows what they’re doing.

Unfortunately, the multi-role truck doesn’t have much longer to live, as GM plans to put the vehicle along with the Escalade EXT out to pasture when the next generation of full-sized vehicles make their way to market starting late 2012.

  1. Hey guys, I love this site since I am a huge GM fan. I just want to give you guys a suggestion to improve traffic and perhaps increase the commenting on your posts: the site loading time is WAY too long. It might be because of the large number of hi-res photos that need to load, but I usually have to be patient for at least 10 seconds before the site comes up. Perhaps there is a script that can load photos sequentially after text? I would look into it to improve traffic. Also, you might want to consider promoting yourselves more. I don’t know how many people know about this blog.

    1. Thanks for the complements and suggestions mate — we greatly appreciate it!

We’re working on both — the load speed as well as the marketing aspect. Expect some improvements to the speed within a few weeks! We’re (currently) a self-funded start-up, but Have big plans for the near- and long-term future!

  2. The information you guys provide is internet-leading in many cases (e.g. sales figures and new product intros), I really appreciate it…keep up the good work!

  3. Say gentlemen, the platform that the avalanche is built on is the same as the Suburban, Yukon XL etc. You mention or the author mentions the GMC Sierra. The Sierra is a pickup and as you know shares the same with Silverado.

    1. Steve — it sure is the same GMT900 platform used across the board — Silverado/Sierra, Suburban/Yukon/Escalade, Avalanche/Escalade EXT.

  4. I was informed that GM will drop the avalanche after the 2012 run. Is this a possibility or just a rumor?

    1. It probably won’t be dropped in 2013… but it will go away when the next-generation trucks and full-sized SUVs are introduced.

That said, I’m hopeful for an Avalanche trim level of the Silverado… which would just be a semantic difference in nomenclature, anyway.
