Update: Chevy has just released the RPOs for the 2012 Cruze — and it looks like Black Granite Metallic will stay, perhaps only as an option. The Imperial Blue Metallic is no longer but Blue Topaz Metallic and Victory Red (RS package only) have been added.
Hot on the heels of the GM Authority exclusive report that the 2012 Chevy Cruze in the U.S. market will obtain the option for keyless entry with push-button start comes another unexpected change-up to next year’s compact sedan: the discontinuation of the metallic black color.
Officially named Black Granite Metallic, the hue is a $195 option on today’s 2011 Cruze. While sources couldn’t confirm the color destined to replace the shiny black, we’d wager that the successor will simply be a black sans the metallic accents. The real question, however, is why Chevy would opt for the color change.
Stay tuned to GM Authority as we learn more!

Hi!
Just as a heads up, the Black Granite Metallic WILL be an available extra-cost 2012 color option, according to the color charts that GM just released.
Other color options on the 2012 Cruze include:
Silver Ice Metallic
Summit White
Gold Mist Metallic
Victory Red (new for 2012)
Crystal Red Tintcoat (extra cost)
Autumn Metallic (new for 2012)
Ice Blue Metallic
Blue Topaz Metallic (new for 2012)
Hope that helps! I’m looking forward to seeing the new Autumn Metallic on a Cruze, myself – the color swatch looks pretty neat!
Thanks Jennifer. Looks like it will be an option, after all. We most likely were tipped as GM was discussing the matter. I wonder why the Cruze doesn’t get the White Diamond Tricoat color. I really like it.
Jennifer — it doesn’t look like Autumn Metallic will be on the 2012 after all. It’s not mentioned on the recently-released RPOs for the 2012 Cruze…
Looks like the colors are still being changed on a regular basis, even though we have already placed orders on a few 2012s.
Latest rumor is Autumn Metallic is still up in the air, Blue Topaz may be out and replaced with Blue Granite. This is disappointing because I really liked the Autumn Metallic on the color swatch they sent us. I’m guessing the color issues are due to production of some of the paints in Japan?
Perhaps they will make some of these limited time offerings in the Spring, like they did with the Ice Blue Traverse and the Espresso Brown Equinox in 2011.
