The Zeta-based Chevrolet Lumina SS of the Middle Eastern market.
With the anticipation and excitement of the Chicago Auto Show looming over our heads, we have received word from multiple sources that a modern-day Chevrolet Monte Carlo is coming our way in the form of something Zeta-based by 2012. Couple that with GM North America President Mark Reuss’ latest remarks confirming the unveiling of a “Camaro-based” (Zeta) vehicle at Chicago and all of a sudden we could be finding ourselves writing about a new sporty addition to the Chevrolet lineup come Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM — when Chevrolet hosts the first press conference of the day. Or not.
Be sure to check back to GM Authority for our coverage of the Chicago Auto Show!

A MonteCarlo and a Camaro, that’s like having a Thunderbird and a Mustang; this could mean only one thing ECONOMIC RECOVERY! That or the varients could be done so cheaply as to add little more expence than doing a Camaro alone, and also goving a broader market spread. Awsome idea if GM can afford it. The swager allone could give the public confedance in GM’s reocovery, remember the late 70’s and early 80’s when Chevrolet had like 9 seperate non truck lines.
What happened?! Or was the “Camaro-based” (zeta) vehicle, just a misdirection from Mark Reuss, and really just about the new Camaro ZL1.
Reuss just tried throwing a curve ball at us. It still doesn’t change anything about the whispers of a resurrected Monte Carlo/Lumina.
All foreign auto name bands build multiple 2 door sport models. It is amazing that GM refuses to offer that body style. The new Curise, for example, 4door only. I believe Chevy sold plenty of two door Cobalts. New Monte would add excitement to the Chevy brand.
it will be awesome to have a rear wheel drive monte carlo again !
the front wheel drive SS was a nice interstate cruiser but i dont care for front wheel drive for performance since it’s not upgradeable like rear drive…….
Are you serious? A FWD car isn’t upgradable because it’s driveline is different from RWD?
Yes, I know there’s torque steer to avoid, but it’s not like it infinately destroys FWD performance.
I think what J is saying is that there’s much more performance potential in a RWD car. They can handle more power, and with no power sent to the front wheels, they can simply focus on steering that power, rather than trying to juggle both things.
That would be and Awesome thing a new Monte Carlo. I have the 2006 Monte Carlo SS
with the LS4 great car I would defiantly think about getting a new one.
If the monte Carlo comes out, wouldn’t that hurt camaro? Or are they going back and forth of replacing each other?
