Rumormill: 30 MPG Chevy Camaro On Its Way?

The latest Chevy Camaro rumor that was more or less overshadowed by the arrival of the ZL1 (and the tantalizing possibilities of what the Z/28 could end up being) comes in the form of a new trim package and a new fuel economy rating. Reportedly dubbed the Camaro 2LS, the model will offer an increased fuel economy number at 30 miles per gallon on the highway, will only be available with a six-speed automatic transmission, will ride on 18-inch steel wheels and could start at roughly $24,700. Stay tuned.

  1. Automatic only!
    Save it,
A 3.75 to one rear gear would enable the use of the meat of the torque curve in every gear, and the use of all six gears in everyday trafic. Just changing to a steeper final drive would improve milage for everyone not just specially tuned automatic’s, that’s how BMW and Accura do it, they gear the final drive to take advantage of were the toruque peak is in the DOHC V6 that’s in the car. Why do’s GM put final drives in place better suited to the 400 inch smog motors of the mid 70’s.

  2. What’s the big deal about a 30mpg Camaro? The last generation could get high 20s with a V8 & a stick and the V6 could get low 30s. The current generation should already be doing this.

    1. I think it a 30 MPG Camaro would be fine, especially that the V6 Mustang gets 31 MPG!
