General Motors Inching On Toyota To Reclaim Number One Sales Spot

After losing the No.1 sales spot in the U.S. market that it had for 76 years to Toyota back in 2008, General Motors looks to be making a comeback with its newly found momentum. For instance, 2010 sales for Toyota tallied to 8.42 million vehicles, while General Motors finished breathing down the Japanese company’s neck, selling 8.39 million. Additionally, Chevrolet sold more than the Toyota nameplate for 2010 and GMC, Buick and Cadillac posted higher sales percentage gains than any other brand. Will 2011 be the year GM is back on top? From the looks of things, it looks very possible.

  1. Meaningless unless we remain on top. Toyota is a juggernought that is known in the developing world the way Ford was in the early 20th century, as the “Universal Automobile” Toyota earned #1 over the last 60 years being relevent in so manny market niches all over the planet. Being a huge GM fan I would hate to see GM beat Toyota by one half of one percent this quarter, than declare VICTORY and promptly go back to the lazy misguided company of the past 40 years and dissapear compleately. GM has to overperform and underpromice, like Toyota, for at least 20 to 40 years before annyone could realisticly call the comeback a succsess. Just look at Chrystler’s flowndering for the past 30 years. In summation I would be allright with GM, Ford and Toyota being dead even, as long as GM had the most solid respect in the industry for relevent products desighned with passion and made with quality; kind of like were BMW was about a minute ago, ok a decade, but it was a nice place to be, Profitable and Respected.
