For the price of $299 (not including installation/ activation), OnStar is offering a standalone rearview mirror equipped with it’s infamous “Blue Button” and will feature necessities like automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, turn-by-turn navigation, roadside assistance, hands free calling and links to emergency services. Dubbed “OnStar Anywhere”, the device will be exclusively available at Best Buy by springtime.
The mirror has already been certified for many models made by Ford, Toyota, Chrysler and others, with more to be announced in the near future. The monthly rate for the service is expected to be equal to that of the OnStar services found in GM vehicles, at roughly $19 a month.
Though this is a benefit to the greater good, we do see The General losing some competitive advantage here.
It’s cool that they are expanding but like you said GM loses some advantage which I don’t like. At least GM has cars that compete which will hopefully keep people buying GM vehicles.
I have recently opened an Electronics Store in Highlands, N.C. and am interested in becoming a Retail Distributor for On Star FMV. What steps do I need to take?
Lisa, I think you have us confused with GM and/or OnStar. We’re GM Authority – The Ultimate INDEPENDENT Destination For All Things GM — and are not related to General Motors and/or OnStar.
I’d recommend contacting GM directly.
