USPTO Filings Point Towards Aveo Replacement Being Called “Sonic”

It’s amazing what people can find browsing through the United States Patent and Trademark Office website. In the past, we have discovered sketches of future GM vehicles, but today we happened to discover a name.
The trademark for “Chevrolet Sonic” was filed on October 5th, 2010 – just days before GM North America President Mark Reuss came forward to the public about a possible name change for Chevy’s next-generation global compact vehicle (pictured above) – which up until that point was to wear the Aveo nameplate.
Though this is major evidence that the Aveo replacement will be called the Sonic, we won’t know for sure until most likely January 2011 during the North American International Auto Show.
A few questions still remain: will the car come with gold rings? Will there be a “Knuckles” variant? Who knows…
