We’re not sure whether GM engineers thought that driving a white 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in a snowy white backdrop wouldn’t attract much attention — but as seen from the latest spy photos, that clearly wasn’t the case.
According to reports, the next-generation ‘Bu will be shorter in length without sacrificing cabin space while resembling the similar profile of its platform mate, the Buick Regal (Opel/Vauxhall Insignia). Though we’re not expected to lose any room inside, the shrinkage in dimensions seems to blur the line between the Cruze and Malibu even further.
For a car that’s expected to launch next year, we’re surprised that the ‘Bu hasn’t removed the zebra outfit yet. Hopefully we will see the Epsilon II-based car fully exposed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, if not New York. I liked driving the 2010 malibu. It was a nice car and I am sure the 2012 version will be even better.
The 2.4 liter four cylinder with 182 hp was more than effective in moving this vehicle nicely. (for what market segment its in)
It is a nice car – especially in top-of-the-line LTZ trim… with the 3.6 liter. I think the 2.4 that’s in there right now is pure garbage. It’s not even the direct-injected unit and it’s completely unrefined – making all sorts of noises, bellows, and whines at random intervals.
PS: the 2.4 currently in the ‘Bu makes 169 hp and 160 lb.-ft. – not 182. It’s a different (non-DI) engine than what’s in the Equinox, Terrain, LaCrosse, Regal, etc.
I just hope that the next-ben ‘Bu gets door handles that are bolted onto the actual door rather than glued on via some sort of a glue/adhesive. In both test units that I had for one week each, the (interior) door handle made a squaky-gluey noise upon being pulled to be shut — and this is a terrible feeling.

I like the new style of the Malibu, why are they using the 2.5 four cylinder motoer the motoer in the cruize is much better. Why cant they built a RS or and SS model they use to built those back in the the 70’s.I hope they make there rally rims what they had back in the 90’s. Hope to hear get more information on the new Malibu.
thanks Brian
Dude! The 1.4 only makes 138 horses compared to the new (and direct injected) 2.5’s 190! The Cruze should aspire for the 2.5, not the other way around.
