Officially Official: Chevrolet Rings In Sonic Name For Next-Generation Subcompact

After discovering GM’s USPTO filings for the Chevrolet Sonic moniker, Chevrolet has come out and officially stated that the next-gen. Aveo will indeed ditch its old name for a new one. The fresh nameplate shares its name with a video game character and a fast food franchise. Production of the Chevrolet Sonic is set to get underway at the Lake Orion, MI assembly plant on August 1st.

Though the Sonic name will be used on the Aveo’s replacement here in North America, the rest of the World will continue to see the very same upcoming vehicle retain the Aveo title. We’re not sure about the reason for this decision, as it appears that the Aveo’s reputation can’t be much better anywhere else than it is here. Oh well.

  2. Hopefully Sega is intrigued as well. Sonic could use some positive publicity, as the video games are not what they used to be 😉
