General Motors seems to have an excess of an estimated 2,000 skilled workers – such as welders and electricians – that it currently does not need in plants all over the United States. So, as an incentive for the workers to proverbially jump ship, The General is offering a buyout of $60,000, plus retirement benefits for workers who qualify.Â
Younger workers may also see the retirement package, but they still get to walk away from their job with nearly enough cash to buy a Cadillac CTS-V Coupe… though we would recommend saving it. Eligible skilled workers will know by December 23rd if they get the buyout, and will in turn have to leave General Motors by March 1st.
