Since the beginning of North American Car of the Year and Truck of the Year (NACOTY), awards, General Motors managed to win six times – the last being in 2008 when the Chevrolet Malibu took the Car of the Year prize. Now it’s the Chevrolet Volt’s turn, and it looks to be facing arguably the stiffest competition ever from the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Sonata. The winner will be announced at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Though you won’t catch us protesting over the finalists for the 2011 NACOTY, we find it difficult to understand how the award-winning Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty wasn’t even a contender to be a North American Truck of the Year. In fact, no actual pickup trucks were even nominated for the prize. Don’t believe us? You can see for yourself in the presser below. If we were part of the committee responsible, the first thing we would be voting for is a name change for this prize.
