Advert: Long-Gone Chevy Cobalt Plays “Bump” With The Corvette

Think quick! Which of the following life goals doesn’t belong?

  • Drive a Chevy Corvette
  • Own a Chevy Corvette
  • Rear-end a Chevy Corvette

If you guessed choice “C”, you’re 100 percent correct! Paradoxically, that’s exactly what the Chevrolet Cobalt did in one of its introductory commercials. The Delta II-based coupe rolled up to a Corvette at a stop light and decided to bump the ‘Vette’s rear bumper over and over again until the mighty bow tie sports car did a (very sick) 180 and confronted the Cobalt head-on.

So there you have it – the Cobalt wasn’t all that bad… at least the folks at Chevy tried to market it as a fun little car (which it was in certain guises). That said, long live the Cruze!

  1. I thought that add was clever, I thought the Cobalt was a good basic car, Now if only the Cruze had a 260bhp varient, you know while gasoline is still so affordable.

    1. Ooops – nice catch, Richard. Fixed!

It really was a great ad and – just like you – I also must have missed it when it aired.
