With its 404 horsepower, 6.2 liter engine, the half-ton GMC Sierra pick-up prowls around snowy and icy surfaces in a singularly tough and uber-cool manner — all to the tune of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. We’re, of course, describing what may be just be the best truck commercial… ever. Yours truly just saw this ad on Christmas Eve TV – and let me tell you, it has quite the (mesmerizing) effect. But don’t take our word for it — watch the ad for yourself to get its full effect.

The 6.2 liter GM v8 is an awesome motor! The nutcracker tag line is priceless!

I like the 6.2 Vortec – although I think its showing its age. I just drove an Avalanche with a derivative of the 6.2 – the 5.3 Vortec. While it sounds great and does its job, the power loss due to the many engine belts is tremendous and very noticeable. I noticed the same with the 6.2 in the 2010 Suburban a few months ago. GM should seriously consider swapping those belts for some metal chains as it did on the Cruze.
Sorry, that was the 6.0 I was referring to the in the Suburban.
the 6.0 liter v8 is a nice motor too.
400 hp is always impressive.
I’m not a huge fan of pickup trucks so I can’t speak of them in great depth. I imagine all trucks are heavy beasts so performance is a relative term.
I’m sure the 6.0 has a lot of torque and gets the job done.
The ad cracks me up with the “nutcracker ” nameplate is funny especially for the holidays.
I’m pretty sure the FCC got on GM’s case because the most recent commercials only talk about the 5.3.
Really? Why would the FCC have a problem with the 6.2?
It’s worth pointing out the ease with which these commercials can be changed up: just swap the audio track and keep the video — and you’ve got yourself a brand new ad!
The ad makes me laugh every time I see it because the “Nutcracker” music is the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
