Report: OnStar MyLink, myChevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac iPhone Apps Coming Soon To Canada

GM fans the world over are quickly becoming aware that The General’s recently-released smartphone apps are the bee’s knees when it comes to the integration of the automobile and personal technology. Unfortunately, only those in the U.S. have had access to these awesome applications, leaving our Canadian counterparts out of the picture. But that will soon change.

According to our well-placed sources, the OnStar MyLink app, along with the entire range of GM’s branded apps, including myChevrolet, myBuick, myGMC, and myCadillac, will soon be available in the Canadian iTunes App Store. How soon, exactly, is not yet known.

At the time of this writing, the apps are available in the United States App Store, but are not in the Canadian adaptation. Canadian iTunes users who click the iTunes links at the bottom of this post will be told that the download is not available to those in Canada. What’s more, the apps are currently not visible in the Canadian App Store and will not show up in a search.

If you have any information as to the timing of the release of these apps, please let us know either by contacting us directly or leaving a comment below. Hat tip to John.

Below are links to the GM MyBrand App Downloads for iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Clicking them opens iTunes (though it’s just U.S.-only, for now):

  1. The Apps currently says that it’s only working with 2011 and newer… But i read somewhere that it will be available also for 2010 models ? It this true ? If yes, when ?

    1. Hi Mathieu – that’s right, the apps CURRENTLY only work with 2011 model year vehicles and newer. Here’s a reason why:

      http://gmauthority.com/blog/2010/08/report-2010-model-year-and-older-gm-models-not-compatible-with-upcoming-onstar-apps/

However, GM is working on getting select 2010 models working with the apps as well. We have a report on set to go up on the blog in the next few hours about this, so stay tuned!

  3. Picked up my 2011 Cruze today. Went to itunes to download app for my 3g ipad only to find out it is not available in Canada, Wtf? Why the delay in getting this technology in Canada? This is my fist GM product since 1984 when I bought my new Fiero, nuff said. Been buying Dodge until today. Not a good first impression, false advertising as far as I am concerned. Oh and why 4-6 weeks delivery for my free ipad? Dealer should of handed me one when I picked up my car. I do like the car but this just rubs me the wrong way.

  4. I can’t get this app to work. It says my profile is incomplete, but it won’t let me enter my vin to complete it. Any ideas. I have a 2011 Traverse, so it is compatible. The Onstar app works great!

    1. Mark – interesting question. I’m not sure how to fix it – but the overarching topic here is how someone like yourself is supposed to go about receiving support from GM and/or OnStar. Let me put the question to the people at GM; I’ll get back to you on here as soon as I hear back so you can fix this.

        1. Guys, I just heard back from Chris Preuss at OnStar. Shoot him an email if you’re having issues/problems with the apps. His email address is:
          [email protected]

If you could please let him know that you got his email address from GMAuthority.com, I would greatly appreciate it!

  8. Thanks Alex.

The email to the contact was forwarded to someone else at GM and here is the response:

We are working to have our Canadian solution that supports both English and French available in Canada before the end of Q1 2011.

Similar to the US, upon initial release it will only be available on the same MY11 vehicles that are supported in the US. The MY11 vehicles which do not support the mobile app (in both the US and CAN) include: Aveo, Colorado, Corvette, HHR, Malibu, Cadillac STS and GMC Canyon. So given you have a Cruze the app should be available to you at launch.

With regards to “why the delay”, there are different carriers, and other constituents that we had to work with in Canada above and beyond who we had to work with in the US. We tried to keep the US and Canadian launches as close as possible.

  12. The app is now in Canada. The HHR 2011 is not yet supported but the problem has been found and coding has begun. This also effects the 2011 Malibu. A loose time frame of 2 or 3 weeks if things all go well.
