All those waiting in fathomless anticipation for the release of GM’s awesome mobile apps for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, or Nokia devices will need to keep waiting. GM has recently told us that it currently has no plans to offer its apps for platforms other than Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android.
The GM Authority Take
Given the outright dominance of the smartphone landscape by iPhone and Android devices, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise to us. And seriously, if you’re still using a Blackberry or Nokia smartphone, it may be time to look for a newer (aka more modern) pocket companion. Windows Mobile, on the other hand, seems to be gaining some steam with the recent revamp and introduction of Windows Phone 7 devices. Perhaps this will be the next OS that GM will tackle… but as they say, only time will tell.

your comment on “And seriously, if you’re still using a Blackberry or Nokia smartphone, it may be time to look for a newer (aka more modern) pocket companion” Typical corporations use Blackberry due there ability to integrate into the corporate IT scheme where apple and Droid fall short. I can see where corporation with fleet vehicles could really benefit.
Justin, I believe your point of view is rather outdated. What you’re describing is a corporate IT environment that was present about 2 years ago; things have changed drastically since then.
For example, today the iPhone is the most corporate-friendly device in the world, even more so than the new Windows Phone devices coming to market. In fact, an iPhone can integrate with a “typical corporate” environment much better than any Blackberry can ever dream of doing. When it comes to Android (not Droid, that’s a Motorola implementation of Android), this is not yet the case – but Google has stated that they’re actively working to change this.
So to sum it all up, Blackberry devices are no longer the most friendly for “corporate IT” environments. Today, the iPhone is much further along that route than Blackberry.
And if users demand to use an iPhone (instead of an inferior Blackberry), THAT’s the ultimate device – and an IT environment should be able to accomodate such users since that’s the device they’re most productive with.

Yeah, well, iphone is only available through at&t and soon verizon. So some of us are stuck with the “inferior” blackberry. So, it would be nice if gm would come out with a blackberry app.
Well, if you have an issue with the carrier(s) on which the iPhone is available…get an Android. There’s no sense in making an app for a device/platform on a severe downfall.

Almost a year later and BlackBerry didnt fall down yet and will not for a long time.
It is sad you can make an app for a very popular secure phone.
Iphones might be great toys but their security is garbage.
Wow, so much for misinformation.
Do you even know what “security” is or how it is measured? The fact that a Blackberry passes certain connections through RIM’s servers doesn’t make it more secure. In fact, it decreases its credibility among security researchers because it introduces a single point of failure.
I develop and support the four major mobile platforms, including iOS, BB, Win Phone, and Android during the day… I also happen to install Blackberry servers for a living. But lately, I’ve been taking them out of current installations that have migrated to another platform and are no longer supporting Blackberries.
As a device, the Blackberry is falling. Perhaps it hasn’t fallen yet, but it’s losing market share hand over first. Has been since 2010. It’s North American marketshare is down over 25%.
Do some research before posting FUD.
I understand the views data on popularity, but GM advertises simply “smart phone” access. If they only intend to support Google and Apple devices, they should not be generic in their marketing. WHY we users may prefer other Smartphones is irrelevant.
I’ve had them all. At this time, my Windows 7 Mobile is the best business phone I’ve ever had. Every user in our company who has had a replacment chance is turning in their droid or iphone for one. They simply work. No bugs, robust and clean interface. It is opinion voting, but right now, the trend in our company is toward the Windows Mobile devices. If GM wants to expand the customer base and truely satisfy those of us who are GM users, add Windows Mobile.
