It’s time to put down your coffee and pay attention. Our sources have recently let us know that we should expect a power boost to the 6.2 liter (LS3 and L99) mill in the Camaro SS.
Apparently, many within GM are peeved that Ford’s new Mustang 5.0 is faster in the quarter mile than the Camaro SS, even though the ‘Stang has significantly less power. One way to rectify this problem is to decrease the Camaro’s weight. However, decreasing the poundage is a more involved ( a.k.a. expensive) process than simply adding some more power to the beastly 6.2 liter LS3. And as owners of the current Camaro SS may well know, there’s plenty of untapped power potential in that engine.
Our sources didn’t give us specific numbers or timing details, but if we were to guess, we’d wager a 20 horsepower bump would feel right at home for the 2012 model year – the same year that the Camaro is expected to receive a significant overhaul of the interior.
That said, we have to wonder whether the Corvette will consequently receive a power increase of its own. Since the Camaro may already be cannibalizing Corvette sales, a bump in power may be just what the doctor ordered to make the ‘Vette worth the additional sticker price when cross-shopped with the Camaro.

How about a rear gear option? That 3.46 rear gear ratio sucks to be perfectly honest. 4.10’s should be an option for sure!
James – interesting question. We haven’t heard of anything so far… but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not in the works.
We’ll see as 2012 gets closer 🙂

Would love to see more interior option, Fabric colors with diff. leather colors that could ordered together. Power options (turbos ,headers, cat exhast systems ) available from proven after markets such as Lingerfelter,etc……..which would be dealer options…also like the rear cogs suggestion too.
Given the Camaro’s popularity, I’m guessing there will be plenty of aftermarket offerings if not soon, then after the 2012 refresh.
And that refresh should actually bring a total interior revamp, so that should address the fabric/leather colors, etc. At least that’s what I’m hoping for
