Report: Aveo-Based Crossover On The Way

As if the all-new Chevrolet Aveo won’t be available in enough flavors, Autocar is reporting that GM’s Korean branch is developing a miniature crossover based of the subcompact.

Now, GM claims that the Gamma II-based crossover will not just be an Opel Meriva with a facelift. Rather, it will be designed from the ground up by GM-Daewoo, the same crew that designed the upcoming Aveo. However, the interior will use several components from the Opel parts bin, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Mechanically, the crossover will lay over a stretched version of the Gamma II frame and even offer all-wheel-drive. If only the upcoming Aveo hatchback was expected to offer the same drivetrain…

Will the Aveo-esque crossover show its face at NAIAS in Detroit with its hatchback and sedan brethren? That question remains to be answered. Heck, we don’t even know if there are plans for a North American arrival, as the model has yet to be officially approved for production. Stay tuned to GM Authority as the story unfolds…
