The Chevrolet Cruze can stick another feather into its cap. According to the Mobile Electronics Competition Association (MECA), the new bow tie brand’s compact sedan has the best sound system in its class.
The Cruze went head-to-head with segment stalwarts including the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla in three tests: a sound-pressure test to measure sound volume, real-time analysis to measure audio fidelity, as well as judges’ subjective evaluations of the listening experience. For the test, the Cruze and Corolla were equipped with their optional sound systems while the Civic had to do with its standard system.
When the scores of the three tests were tallied up, the Cruze came out the winner with a score of 74.83 points out of a possible 100, the Corolla came in second with a score of 69.75, and the Civic took third with a score of 58.83.
“In our competitions, stock systems typically score between 55 and 65 points. With nearly 75 points, the Cruze delivers the performance we would expect in a luxury car – not an $18,000 car,” said Steve Stern, commissioner of the Mobile Electronics Competition Association.
If you happen to be the lucky owner of a new Cruze, here’s a list of tunes that do its upgraded sound system justice justice.
