Chevrolet Announces Voltec 240V Home Charger For $490*

Chevrolet has announced another supplier of home chargers for the sizzlingly-anticipated Chevy Volt. SPX Service Solutions will provide the Voltec 240V home charging unit for a price of $490 for the unit along with a $1,475 estimated installation charge, which will vary with requirements for the charger to be installed.

The Voltec 240V can charge a fully-depleted Volt battery pack to a state of full charge in four hours compared to the ten hour charge time provided by the standard charge cord plugged into a run-of-the-mill 120V household outlet.

  1. I am an EE and I see that $1,475 estimate too high. I know it depends on local electrician work quotes and minimum work time, distance of installation to main service, and cost of materials, but honestly I can do my own for less than $200 in materials.
