Mystery Of Chevy Volt Gas Tank Solved

A question on the forefront of many Volt fans, followers, enthusiasts, and critics for the last three years has finally been answered! At the Volt Consumer Advisory Board inauguration this week, someone has finally uncovered the capacity of the Volt’s gas tank. So here it is, folks: the gas tank of the Volt is capable of holding a total of 9.3 gallons.

That amount was confirmed with GM engineers, putting it squarely in line with a June article by Consumers Report in which the publication estimated the tank size to be in the vicinity of 9 gallons. The new question on everyone’s mind, however, is the Volt’s total range. GM claims that number is approximately 300 miles, but speculation has it pegged around 340-350 miles.

To get a clear answer to that question, we’ll have to wait until the Volt hits dealer lots… or until someone on the Volt Consumer Advisory Board spills the beans after living with the car for a week. Stay tuned!
