The fine folks at Chevrolet have just posted a video explaining how the upcoming Volt operates. As you would expect, the video touts the vehicle’s range, electric capability, and the interaction between the engine-generator and electric motor.
The GM Authority Take
We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again: if Chevrolet wants the Volt to be a raging success, one of the things it must do is make it drop-dead simple for the average car shopper to see the superiority offered by the Volt compared to its competitors. Unfortunately, it seem to us that the typical car buyer still doesn’t understand the benefits of the Volt compared to such vehicles as the Toyota Prius or the Nissan Leaf. After all, the educational video you’ve just finished watching lasts for an entire two minutes and a half minutes – way longer than the attention spans of most internet users. So while GM Authority patrons (and crew) kept their eyes peeled to the video until the very last second, your average internet user has most likely already switched to the tab where s/he is harvesting pumpkins in Farmville.
Comment
If Ed Begley were to get get on board I would expect demand for the volt would increase dramatically. One could appeal to his sense of planetary responcibility and perhaps, he would endorse and even promote the virtues of the new direction of personal transportation, for a reasonable fee. We really need some towering enthusiasm from people whose opinions are respected. I’m just sayin’….He’s tall and looked up to by environmentalists as well as fans of St. Elseware and Bill Nye and little people like me.
