Fact: recalls aren’t fun. Unfortunately, they must be dealt with on a semi-regular basis. To that end, General Motors has issued a recall notice for 20,224 units of 2009-2010 all-wheel drive Cadillac CTS and CTS-V models due to lack of compliance with a federal motor vehicle safety standard that could lead to a possible issue with the front passenger-side knee airbag.
According to the NHTSA, a crash wherein the front passenger is not buckled could result in that passenger’s knees being hit. To fix the issue, Cadillac has instructed dealers to replace the glove box assembly and – if applicable – modify the instrument panel structure. The recall is scheduled to begging on or before October 20th and – as is standard practice during recalls -these services are free of charge.

Wait, not buckled, so technically isn’t it more the fault of the passenger for not buckling in rather than the fault of the manufacturer? Nevertheless, good for GM dealing with this issue in a timely manner.
Absolutely! They definitely should be buckled.
I think the reason for the recall has more to do with the gray area. If/when this were to come in front of a judge/jury, it wouldn’t be so clear cut as “it’s the fault of the passenger for not having been buckled up.” It would be something like “well, yes – they weren’t buckled… but they may not have expected the airbag to not deploy because of it.”
See how it can get into the gray area very quickly? But I agree with you anyway 🙂
