Mark The Date: Volt Production To Begin November 11th

Volt fans: mark your calendar for November 11, 2010. That is the date when Job 1 of the Chevrolet Volt will begin rolling off the line at its newly-retooled assembly plant in Hamtramck, MI and (finally) make its way into dealerships.

GM had originally set November 2010 as the timeframe for dealership-bound Volts to begin rolling off the line, but could not absolutely set a firm date until certain achievements in its development were met.

Until November 11th, the Hamtramck plant will still continue building pre-production Volts for GM’s Captured Test Fleet – vehicles used by employees for evaluation. However, dealers will have to wait until early December – four weeks after Job 1 – to take delivery to their lots. And despite seeming incredibly on the late end, the Volt will still make its release just in time for a potential Super Bowl commercial.

  1. I retired from GM in September, 2009 with a car voucher which will expire in March 2011. I ordered a Volt July 23, 2010 from Al Serra Chevrolet in Grand Blanc,MI. I was just over there and they say they may not get any volts until March. I could use a little reassurance right about now…………..

    1. Jarrett – congrats on your Volt order… that’s an interesting situation. We’ll forward your message to GM corporate – since we’re not GM, but an INDEPENDENT GM fan site.
