DIY: Make Your (C6) Corvette Sound Fierce In Under 45 Seconds (With Video)

So, you’ve finally bought your dream Corvette and parked it in its deserved place – in your checker-tiled garage. Perhaps you’ve even spent a few late nights admiring the sleek and sculpted body while listening to the burly exhaust note. Life is as good as it gets… right? Well, it could get even better, since owners of certain C6 ‘Vettes can improve the exhaust note of their sports car for free within 45 seconds and without using any tools (except for your hands).

Now before we go any further, it’s important to note that this mod only works on C6 ‘Vettes equipped with the optional dual mode exhaust, which became an option during the 2008 model-year. If you look carefully, you’ll notice that the two inner pipes of the ‘Vette have butterfly valves. These are in the flow-through (open) position only at engine start, or at 3500+ RPM, giving the Corvette a killer exhaust tune. Unfortunately, it’s a sound that lasts for a few short seconds – until the valves close.

How to solve the predicament?

  1. With the car off, fold down the carpet protecting the passenger side kick panel
  2. You will be presented with a fuse box
  3. Remove the bottom right fuse (it’s red)
  4. Double check that you’re doing this only when the engine is off

Take your ‘Vette out for a drive and enjoy the glorious exhaust note!

  2. Wow, it actually worked. Are there any downsides to leaving the valves open all the time?
