GM Increases Volt Production By 50 Percent For 2012

What do you do when President Obama stops by one of yours factories? If you’re GM, you announce an increase to the production of your most PR-friendly vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt.

Previously, GM has announced that it will build 10,000 Volts in 2011, the vehicle’s first year in production, and 30,000 units in 2012. Now, GM has decided to increase production for the Volt in 2012 to 45,000 units – a 50 percent increase.

The number is still 15,000 units less than originally planned by GM executives for the second and third years of the Volt’s availability. The General says increased customer demand for the Volt spurred the decision. Or maybe it was the Volt’s $41,000 price tag. Who knows?
