General Motors India has registered a 45 percent year-over-year growth in July. The increase was primarily driven by the Chevrolet Beat (known as the Spark everywhere else in the world), Cruze, and Spark (aka Daewoo Matiz).
According to a GM India press release (available below), these three vehicles “have become the industry benchmarks in their respective segments and a winner among consumers in India, with their best-in-class design, performance and other product attributes.”
Mr. P. Baledran, vice president of GM India, cited delivery constraints for certain models throughout the month due to a scheduled maintenance shutdown of GM’sHalol plant in India. However, the plant is now back online, which should clear up pent-up demand in the coming weeks due to a constrained supply in July.
“There were some delivery constraints for certain models in July due to annual maintenance shutdown of the plant,” said Balendran. “With the operation back to normal, we should be able to clear the backlog this month.”
