Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Michigan has announced that, starting in 2011, it will move approximately 3,000 employees from its offices in Southfield (Michigan) to GM’s Renaissance Center in Detroit.
“This is great news for the GM Renaissance Center and great news for Wayne County and the City of Detroit,” said Ed Whitacre, GM chairman and CEO. “We made the Renaissance Center our global headquarters because GM believes in Detroit, and it is clear that our friends at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan share that commitment.”
The Renaissance Center first opened in 1976 and was purchased by GM in 1996. After extensive renovations, GM made the complex its global headquarters, having moved from the New Center area of Detroit.
Currently, other major tenants in the Ren Cen include Ally Financial, Dykema Gosset, Urban Science, Marsh, HP, Deloitte, and Pepper Hamilton. With BCBS, occupancy of the Renaissance Center will exceed 90 percent.
