Top Gear Gives The Chevy Lacetti A “Proper Viking Burial”

Click the image to watch the funeral of Top Gear's Chevy Lacetti

All of the Top Gear-heads out there who torrented the latest episode (that aired in Europe on Sunday night) and all of our readers that reside across the Pond already know what happened to the show’s storied Reasonably Priced Car, the blue Chevrolet Lacetti.

But in case you don’t, here’s the latest: after being driven by dozens of celebrities, including Jay Leno and Simon Cowell, hundreds of times around the Top Gear track, the gents running the show have decided to let the heroic little Lacetti finally take a rest. All those missed shifts and spin outs mean that the Lacetti has had a hard but great life: other “reasonably priced” cars would blow a gasket to become The Reasonably Priced Car on the most pirated television show in the world.

You’d think Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Richard Hammond and The Stig would sell the Lacetti to some eccentric collector (for no less than six figures) in order to finance the show’s next outrageous challenge (like driving across the English Channel underwater). But this is Top Gear and you can’t put a price on awesome. Instead, they relieved the Lacetti of its earthly duties with a bang… literally. And a very big one at that.

Click past the jump to watch the funeral of Top Gear’s Chevrolet Lacetti – a model that actually began life as a Daewoo (Lacetti) and then became a Chevrolet after The General acquired Korea’s Daewoo. And just in case you’re wondering – the car that took the Lacetti’s place is a Kia Cee’d… which we think is not worthy enough to be driven by spoiled millionaires.
