A Chevrolet Equinox Unattendedly Accelerates… More At 11

Another case of unintended acceleration has been reported, but this time the culprit is not a Toyota. Marlene Taylor of Kentucky was driving her 2008 Chevrolet Equinox on I-80, set the cruise control, and was hoping to stay at a constant speed. Instead, Taylor’s Equinox reportedly accelerated without her intention and reached 90 mph. She contacted OnStar and was told to put the transmission in neutral, use the emergency brake, and use her foot to lift up the accelerator pedal. From Taylor’s account of the event, none of those ideas worked. Twenty minutes later, Kentucky State Police caught up to Taylor’s Equinox and stopped the vehicle by getting in front it, consequently slowing it down.
Taylor has hired Attorney William McNurry to possibly represent her in a lawsuit. According to McNurry,
“We simply want the manufacturer to investigate thoroughly. We want their cooperation so that we can all as a society to get to the root of what could be a very, very, dangerous problem…”
So far, Taylor’s Equinox is the only reported case of unintended acceleration in a Chevrolet model. GM has yet to comment on the case.

This happened recently with my mother’s 2013 Chevrolet Equinox in which caused an accident hitting two other cars. It lurched forward accelerating while foot on the brake leaving black marks on pavement going <5 miles. GM plays the do not touch her car role.
This happened to me today (06/10/2020) with my 2020 Equinox! I was pulling up behind my sister’s car to park at her car port, and the Equinox suddenly lurched with RPMs revving causing my car to ram into the rear of her vehicle, shoving her car into the side of her home! The car was still accelerating even as I was standing on the brakes. I was so scared and horrified at the crumpled mess that was her vehicle! I have filed a report with NHTSA, called and got an incident report with GM, told my insurance company what happened, and called my dealership and spoke with their service department. The only consolation that I take away from this is that her car was parked and no one was in it. What if this had happened out on the road or in an intersection shoving another car into oncoming traffic??!!
This happened to me on 10/7/20 with my 2019 equinox with 11k miles. I was easing into an angle parking space with my foot on the brake. Suddenly the rpms went up and the car surged forward. It hopped the curb and I couldn’t hold it back with the brake so I slammed it into
neutral.
This happened to me on December 29, 2020, I am now waiting for GM to inspect it. I was stopped at a red light behind another car when the engine revved and car lurched forward, hitting the car in front of me. The brake was totally locked up . I am thankful I didn’t go into the busy intersection or hit people that might have been crossing the street. I was not in control of the car, it was driving on its own .
