GM has appointed Selim Bingol to the post of Vice President of communications. Bingol, 49, will be responsible for GM’s global communications, including global products and brands, corporate, public policy, executive report, and internal communications.
Most recently, Bingol was senior vice president and senior partner with Fleishman-Hillard, a public relations agency, where he served as senior communications strategist to large international clients.
Prior to his tenure at Fleishman-Hillard, Bingol worked with recently-appointed GM CEO Ed Whitacre as senior Vice President of corporate communications at AT&T and led the telecom giant through almost $200 billion in mergers and acquisitions.
“Selim brings a wealth of experience to this position and his deep and diverse background will serve us well as we accelerate our efforts to design, build and sell the world’s best vehicles,” said Whitacre. “I have worked with Selim over the years on several complex communication issues and he has my trust and respect.”
Prior to joining AT&T, he was Vice President of SBC Communications.
Bingol, who lives in San Antonio, Texas (another tie to Whitacre!), succeeds Chris Preuss, who was recently appointed Vice President and President of OnStar.
“I have been fortunate to have great assignments and work with talented professionals throughout my career,” said Bingol. Â “I am excited to be part of a team that is taking GM to new heights.
