Video: How The Chevrolet Volt Works

Click me to watch the video

Behold the following animation explaining how the much-anticipated Chevy Volt works. The nearly three minute long video from the folks at Chevrolet shows that the Volt is able to travel up to 40 miles on battery power alone which, upon depletion, will be supplemented by the engine-generator. The video also pegs the Volt’s electric drive unit at “the equivalent of 150hp [and] 273 lb-ft. (370Nm) of instant torque,” as well as a top speed of 100 miles per hour.

Since this video is aimed at the “average consumer,” one thing I would have liked to see is an explanation as to the difference between the Volt’s functionality and that of other hybrids such as Toyota’s infamous Prius. In that regard, the video doesn’t go far enough in clarifying the benefits brought on by the Volt or its plug-in capability. Hit up the jump for the video and its really cool musical accompaniment.
