Rumormill: Revised Chevy Silverado HD’s 6.6L Duramax To Make Around 700 lb.-ft. Torque, 400 Horsepower

2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD DebutFor the most part, we’re very stoked about the updated Heavy Duty Silverados that were unveiled at the Chicago auto show just last week. Interestingly, the power output of the 6.6L DURAMAX V8 turbodiesel (mated to the Allison 1000 transmission) was not announced with the pickups. But we’ve received a few reports from trusted sources that pin the updated HDs powertrains at around 400 horses and 700 lb.-ft. of torque!

If true, these numbers represent gains of 35 hp and 40 lb.-ft. of torque compared to outgoing (pre-update) 2010 models.

We’ll wait for the folks at Chevy Trucks to announce the official numbers in a couple of weeks and see if they match up to what we’ve been told. But what do you think is taking them so long to announce them in the first place?

Check out the high-res gallery of the 2011 Silverado HDs after the break!
