2015 GMC Canyon
General Motors is expected to debut the all-new 2015 GMC Canyon mid-size pickup truck at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2014. The new Canyon will fill a gap in the GMC lineup that was left when the GMT355-based Canyon was discontinued in 2012. The 2015 Canyon will likely serve a role of a personal lifestyle truck than the larger Sierra, as described by sources. As before, the 2015 Colorado – which will debut before the 2015 Canyon at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2013 — will serve as the platform mate to the all-new 2015 Canyon.
The second-generation Canyon will mark the first complete redesign of the nameplate since 2004.
An all-new midsize pickup truck to slot under the all-new 2014 Sierra full-sizer.
To fill a more personal truck role in the GMC product portfolio for those who think the full-size Sierra is too big.
A launch in the third quarter of 2014, as a 2015 model year vehicle.
Expected improvements over the first-generation model include:
- More capable in towing and hauling
- Higher power and fuel economy
- Improved ride and handling
- Improved cabin tech
- Improved aerodynamics for great fuel economy
Full specs coming soon.
The 2015 Canyon is expected to offer the following engines:
- 2.5 liter naturally-aspirated gasoline I4 LCV
- 3.6 liter naturally-aspirated gasoline V6 LFX
- 2.8 liter “baby” Duramax turbo-diesel I4
The 2015 Canyon is expected to be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission. The availability of a six-speed manual is possible.
The next-gen Canyon will continue to compete in the mainstream mid-size pickup truck segment against the:
- Toyota Tacoma
- Nissan Frontier
Even the 2015 Chevy Colorado can be named a competitor.
