The defect: an error with the engine control module (ECM) software may result in the fuel injectors being disabled.
The hazards: disabled fuel injectors would prevent the engine from starting, or may cause engine stalling while the car is running, increasing the risk of a crash.
Affected vehicles: 2018 Chevrolet Malibu.
Number of vehicles affected: 177,276 located in the United States. Currently, no recall of this nature exists for the Malibu models powered by the turbo-charged 1.5L LFV engine sold in other parts of North America.
The fix: as part of the GM recall, dealers will reprogram the vehicle’s engine control module free of charge.
Owners should: vehicle owners should note any issues with their vehicle having difficulty starting, and contact their local dealership as soon as possible to prevent any engine stalling issues.
