We just spent some time driving the 2019 GMC Sierra Elevation in Montreal, Canada, and are bringing you a closer look at the model here via a live photo gallery.
The Sierra Elevation is a trim based on the Sierra SLE, and is considered by GMC as the “gateway to the brand” that aims to attract a younger, more active buyer that doesn’t necessarily need heavy-duty capability.
The GMC Sierra Elevation, pictured here in Onyx Black, sets itself apart from the rest of the 2019 GMC Sierra lineup via monochromatic door handles, bumpers and grille surround. The commanding design is amplified by black exterior accents, including the grille insert, tow hooks, side window trim, and standard 20-inch glossy black painted aluminum wheels. The unit we drove replaced the black wheels with a set of optional 22-inch, 5-Spoke Dark Silver Aluminum Wheels with Machined Accents.
For the T1 platform Sierra, the Elevation was initially available only in the Double Cab body style in the United States, but it became available as a Crew Cab for the 2020 model year. Two- or four-wheel-drive configurations are available.
Like all 2019 Sierra models, the Sierra Elevation is built upon a prominent foundation of strong bodywork that incorporates chiseled fenders and a tall, powerful hood capped with a bigger and bolder grille than any Sierra before it.
At the front, new high-intensity LED headlamps incorporate C-shaped “light blade” signature lighting elements and LED fog lamps.
The rear features C-shaped LED elements within the taillights. This unit was also equipped with black off-road assist steps that are available as an accessory.
One can equip the GMC Sierra Elevation with the optional X31 Off-Road Package, which includes:
- Unique suspension with Rancho off-road shocks
- Hill Descent Control
- Protective underbody skidplates
- High-capacity air filter
- G80 locking rear differential
- Two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing and all-terrain tires
- Dual exhaust
- X31 hard badge
- 275/60R20SL all-terrain tires
- Z82 Trailering Package (trailer hitch, 7-pin and 4-pin connectors and Hitch Guidance)
However, opting for the X31 package automatically upgrades the turbocharged 2.7L L3B I4 engine to the 5.3L V8 L84 EcoTec3 motor making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque with Dynamic Fuel Management. By comparison, the boosted 2.7L Turbo I4 makes 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. The Duramax turbo-diesel 3.0L I-6 LM2 engine good for 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque is also available on the GMC Sierra Elevation.
Inside, the GMC Sierra Elevation features an 8-inch diagonal screen with the GMC Infotainment System and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity as standard. A six-speaker audio system is also standard. A premium GMC Infotainment System that incorporates a higher resolution touchscreen, advanced personalization features, voice recognition functionality, and available in-vehicle apps is optional, as is a 7-speaker Bose premium audio system. USB Type A and Type C ports for charging mobile devices are standard.
The 2019 GMC Sierra Elevation starts at $41,895 for the 2WD Double Cab, Standard Box model, and goes up from there.
