Aside from the optional CarbonPro carbon-fiber bed, the 2019 GMC Sierra MultiPro tailgate is the pickup’s other party trick.
The MultiPro tailgate provides incredible flexibility for owners and is pretty simple to use. Autoblog walked through the optional tailgate with a GMC engineer to see just how many ways the 2019 GMC Sierra MultiPro tailgate can be useful in the real world.
A touchpad operates the tailgate with the bottom button dropping the tailgate like normal, and the top button releasing the upper portion of the MultiPro tailgate. If the driver drops the tailgate as normal, they can choose to pull up the upper portion to activate the load stop for longer cargo. He or she can also press the top button on the touchpad while the entire gate assembly is down, which then folds the upper portion down. Now, the driver can stand even closer to the box itself for easier loading.
That’s not all. While the upper portion is folded down, the driver can also bring down a step for easier entry into the bed. When it’s time to exit the bed, the 2019 GMC Sierra MultiPro tailgate also offers an assist handle.
Moving on to just the upper gate portion, the tailgate can become a workbench of sorts, and it provides even more space for longer cargo while keeping the primary tailgate closed.
With all the fun trickery, the 2019 Sierra does miss out on one option that we now know is exclusive to the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, the power-operated tailgate. We think the added functionality is worth it.
