While the ute and the Holden Special Vehicles Maloo are staples in Australia, they are not in the United Kingdom. However, lucky Vauxhall has been graced with the HSV GTS and Maloo for some time, thanks to the fact both brands share a right-hand drive layout. And EVO decided it was time a for a track day.
The Vauxhall VXR8 Maloo, as it’s called in the UK, surprised many track day goers as it passed by Porsche 911s, Lotuses and even kept pace with a Lamborghini GT3 racer. Though, it’s not just about the car; when you have a driver like Tiff Needell any car is in good hands.
To no surprise, the VXR8 Maloo is a bit tail happy, even surprising Needell occasionally, but he still calls the overall experience “Fun with a capital F.”
The fun will stop shortly, however. HSV has revealed its final lineup of Holden Commodore based performance vehicles, which includes the HSV Maloo GTSR. In fact, as Holden manufacturing waves goodbye, there will not be a replacement for the iconic Australian ute.
So, revel in the fun in the video up above and see what the world will miss when Australia stops building stupid powerful utes.
