In contrast, it seems Nissan has taken to naming their autonomous vehicles after Marvel Comics characters.
“The team at Cruise [GM’s autonomous driving subsidiary] decided early on to name the vehicles as opposed to numbering them,” a spokesperson said in an email. “It makes it easier to identify the Bolt [electric vehicles] in the garage, especially since all of them were the same color (white).”
GM also stated the fleet of 20 Bolt EVs covered 9,776 miles of driving in 2016. In total, vehicles disengaged from autonomous mode 181 times, making for an 18.5 percent drop out rate.
But, yes, the next time you see a Bolt EV, you could be staring at Polarbear, or maybe even Numbat.
