The first time Hennessey Performance ran the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with the HPE750 package against the 2017 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, the Dodge was purple and had an automatic transmission. This time around, both cars are black, both cars are equipped with manual transmissions, and both cars still make over 700 horsepower at the crank.
Like in the previous comparo, the cars compete in a roll race: both start in second gear and continue the pull all the way through fourth. Two passes were made, and the results were the same for both — the HPE750 Camaro ZL1 came out on top.
The GM Authority Take
We can’t say we’re too surprised at the outcome, as the Camaro has the clear advantage given its superior power-to-weight ratio (which is also comes in very handy on a twisty track) compared to the Hellcat. Of course, one could argue that it wasn’t a fair fight, since the Hellcat didn’t have any help from Hennessey, but we’re guessing that HPE will settle that dispute with a follow-up comparison, so stay tuned.
