General Motors is recalling the 2016-2017 Chevrolet Suburban HD, a vehicle sold only to fleets, over a compliance issue with the right-hand outside mirror.
The defect: the vehicles were assembled with a convex right-hand outside mirror, instead of with a non-convex (flat) right-hand outside mirror. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating above 10,000 pounds require an unmagnified (flat) passenger-side mirror, and the Suburban HD’s GVWR is 11,000 pounds.
The hazards: as such, the Suburban HD fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, “Rearview Mirrors.”
Affected vehicles: 2016-2017 Chevrolet Suburban HD (only available to fleet customers).
Number of vehicles affected: 214 vehicles (United States figure).
The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the convex mirror with a non-convex mirror and provide a new page for the owner’s manual with the customer notification letter, free of charge.
Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this Chevy Suburban HD recall should visit recalls.gm.com. There, owners will be able to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs. If the vehicle is part of the recall, then owners should take it to a Chevrolet dealer.
