Corvette Racing has qualified 7th and 9th in GTLM for the 55th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The No. 3 C7.R of Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and part-time Corvette Racing endurance driver Mike Rockenfeller was the fastest of the team’s two cars with a lap of 1:44.359. The No. 4 sister car of Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and endurance driver Marcel Fassler had a fastest lap of 1:44.685. Magnussen and Gavin were the fastest drivers in the No. 3 and No. 4 cars, respectively.
Ford Chip Ganassi Racing enjoyed a successful qualifying session, locking out the front row with a 1-2-3 result. The No. 66 GT of Sebastien Bourdais and Joey hand was quickest GT, with Hand posting a lap of 1:43.473. Westbrook was second quick in the No. 67 GT with a lap of 1’43.704, while Olivier Pla rounded out the top 3 for the Blue Oval with a 1’43.987. The No. 69 GT qualified sixth in GTLM.
Toni Vilander put the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTB in fourth with a lap of 1:44.121 – setting Sunday up for a repeat of Le Mans last year that saw a battle between the Ford and the Risi Ferrari. That’s if Corvette Racing doesn’t try and stand in the way, of course, and we’re betting it will after its impressive 1-2 result in 2016.
You can watch Corvette Racing, Ferrari, Ford, Porsche and the rest of the GTLM, GTD and Prototyupe grids battle it out at Daytona when the race goes green on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Maybe Corvette Racing would be a little better if IMSA would stop making their cars slower every time they win…
Well they are trying to balance power to keep all the MFG involved.
They let them run free in the past and we ended up with two Corvettes running and no one else in class.
Some times they get the BOP right and other time vavorites are played.
Pure racing left us long ago when big money came up in and it went from sport to entertaiment and marketing.
Looks like the Vettes are down on speed aero wise. But they are hanging in well. The Fords are running hard so maybe they can break them or get them to use more fuel.
In 24 HRs the fastest car does not always win. Durability and not making mistakes go a long way and Pratt and Miller are best at both.
Note they do not need 4 cars to finish the race like Ford does.
