You, the dear readers, weren’t entirely happy about Chevrolet potentially resurrecting the Blazer name for an upcoming, front-wheel drive Chevy midsize crossover. That would be the 2018 Chevrolet Blazer. However, these latest spy shots may showcase a true off-road SUV is coming in the future.
Normally, we like to fill these reports with behind-the-scenes intel we have gathered, but we truly have no clue what this vehicle is pictured in the grainy, low-resolution spy shots. We can see it’s certainly based on a truck, likely the Colorado, and it’s sporting some massive tires. It also does not feature a bed.
While it could simply be a future Colorado variant, the lack of a truck bed means it’s also quite possible this is going to be an actual sport utility vehicle and not a crossover. The fact it’s also rolling around on enormous tires means it could have an off-road way of life in mind.
We know dealers have called for more products like the Hummer of yore to return to dealerships, as those customers and largely defected to Jeep. We also heard rumors of a new GMC SUV to sit atop the now midsize Acadia. However, again, this looks to be midsized.
Ford is also busy readying a new Ford Bronco, which is rumored to sit atop a new Ranger platform, meaning it will not feature front-wheel drive and be more suited to the off-road enthusiast. Is Chevrolet finally preparing to counter Ford? We don’t know, and we likely won’t know unless this test mule is spotted again up close.
