Meet The New Ecto-1, A 1982 Cadillac DeVille Hearse: Video

In the spirit of Ghostbusters, the rebooted film will feature an old Cadillac as the now female busters’ ride of choice. However, much has changed from the original Ecto-1.

The film has released a vignette detailing the “new” Ecto-1, which happens to be a 1982 Cadillac DeVille hearse. Quite the opposite of the original 1959 Cadillac ambulance. However, it’s still outfitted to begin busting ghosts terrorizing New York City.

The lady ghostbusters acquire the vehicle from an uncle, who happens to own a funeral home business, unlike the ratted-up 1959 Cadillac ambulance from the original films. The director states the Ecto-1 was always of high priority to feature in the film, and felt the 1982 Cadillac captured what a rebooted Ecto-1 should be.

Check out the video above before Ghostbusters hits theaters near you on July 15.

  1. Guess u have to see the film. But looks like a missed oppty to make a cooler (even retro) Caddy – Kind of like Chevy not being a part of that Domino’s delivery car – making a futuristic, retro Caddy hearse has a cool factor that even the millenial-only marketing dept should be able to appreciate.

  2. Cadillac should not have let them use this vehicle as move prop, especially with the whole brand refresh happening right now. Not a good look for the Cadillac brand.

    1. How exactly would Cadillac legally prevent them from doing so?

  3. Compared to the Meteor Cadillac ambulance used in the original movies; this looks like sh#t. I guess they figured crappie Ghostbusters remake deserves a crappy Ecto-1 as well.
