With pickup truck sales hotter than ever at present, General Motors is taking steps to boost production at the Flint assembly.
According to M Live, GM will increase production of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in 2017. Workers will be able to take on Saturday shifts, and temporary workers will be brought in to increase the production.
United Auto Workers Local 598 Shop Chairman Eric Welter said the addition is because truck buyers want a light duty, American-made truck.
“This was just a need to satisfy their customers,” he said. The Silverado 1500 is also produced in Mexico.
GM did not comment on the matter specifically, but Welter added, “This workforce has done all the right things to gain the confidence of General Motors. It adds security. It’s an overall production increase for General Motors.”
