General Motors filed an application to register General Mobility as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, GM Authority has exclusively discovered.
The automaker’s March 14th, 2016 application is assigned serial number 86939211 and specifies that the mark will be used for “Promoting public interest and awareness in alternative transportation solutions.”
The GM Authority Take
Based on the name along with the goods and services category of the application, it appears that The General is planning to launch a new umbrella brand for alternative transportation called General Mobility. The name is in line with the legendary General Motors name, and also appears to place GM into a mobility mindset, rather than that of an automaker. As such, we wonder if the new initiative is in any way related to GM’s new Maven mobility brand.
