We’ve seen the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Z06 go up against the Dodge Viper ACR, and we’ve seen the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 go head to head with the Ford Mustang GT350R. What we haven’t seen, however, is a three-way comparison test between the Corvette Z06, Viper ACR, and Mustang GT350R. Fortunately, Top Gear has remedied this issue by taking the three domestic sports cars to two different race tracks in order to find out which is the overall favorite.
In a comparison test last month fielded by Motor Trend, the Corvette Z06’s performance fell short to the Viper ACR. With pro driver Randy Probst behind the wheel, the Viper ACR netted a quicker track time and noticeably better stability through the curves at Laguna Seca. The quirky rear-end was something the guys at Top Gear were familiar with, so they thought it best to leave the stability controls on.
Long story short, the all-motor Viper ACR offers the fastest performance around the track, with the Corvette Z06 coming in at a strong second, and the underpowered, though far more affordable Mustang GT350R coming in third. While us Yankee auto enthusiasts understand that perhaps this comparison was better off waiting for the Ford GT, we understand the desire for the Redcoats to sample the best of what America has to offer today.
