The 2016 GMC Sierra HD lineup is equipped with the Eaton Locker automatic locking rear differential, and it comes in handy during times where getting traction can be difficult. It’s what GMC refers to as “intelligent engineering.”
The differential locks as it detects a speed differential between the two rear wheels, which essentially translates into more torque to the wheel with more grip. As shown in the video, this works great in slick situations such as hauling a boat out of water and up a ramp.
The GMC Sierra HD also offers other advanced traction controls and 4WD capabilities. It can do more than just hard labor, too. After seeing the more practical uses for this technology, check out this video of a twin-turbo Silverado sporting the new traction goodies – it hooks hard and launches from a stand like a rocket.
