In a recent column for Sportscar365, Cadillac Racing’s Johnny O’Connell reflected on his successful 2015 Pirelli World Championship season and also discussed some of the changes for this year.
O’Connell said winning his fourth consecutive Pirelli World Challenge Championship in 2015 was a “special addition,” to his racing resume. The season wasn’t without its mishaps, though, such as when their newly developed ATS-V.R burned to the ground at Barber Motorsports Park, forcing O’Connell to use a backup car at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. He still managed to take two wins in Canada, however, then followed it up with another two wins at Miller Motorsports Park.
In 2016, O’Connell and Cadillac are welcoming on Michael Cooper, who he describes as a “fast young talent,” that will push him to be competitive throughout the season. He’s also looking forward to racing with new competition, such as Jon Fogarty and his McLaren, a new Bentley team and another Porsche.
