An all-new generation of Silverado and Sierra are a few years off yet, but the current generation of the trucks are cleaning up quite well.
The Sierra’s blue-collar brother had a strong showing, too, with the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ placing third in the competition.
Judges fell head-over-heels for the 6.2-liter V8 engine in the 2016 Sierra and thought its pairing with the eight-speed automatic was sublime. The entire powertrain felt in sync, according to the scorecard.
The judges wished the 2016 Silverado was equipped with the same 6.2-liter V8 (which it can be, but only in High Country trim) but the LTZ still hit hard enough in many areas, such as the truck’s value proposition and the most composed chassis of the bunch.
Although Ford trumped the Chevrolet in this comparison, the F-150 didn’t offer up enough to dethrone the GMC. Close, but no cigar.
